Newton’s gravitational constant is not fundamental

There are substantial indications that point towards the gravitational constant no being a universal constant, but a derived parameter and a variable in a more fundamental theory of gravity. We explore how the gravitational constant introduces a preferred scale in gravitation, the approaches to remove it, and its possible uses to solve unexplained observations.

Is MOND an an effect of cosmic frame-dragging à la Mach?

The origin and physical mechanism of Modified Newtonian Dynamics (MOND) is unknown. We derive the acceleration scale constant a0 and MOND’s interpolating function from a linear approximation to General Relativity which implements Mach’s principle and the relativity of acceleration, in a modified inertia model. This proof of concept motivates the possibility that MOND arises from large-scale linear inertial frame-dragging induced by the expanding universe within General Relativity.

Machian MOND: a variable acceleration scale constant in galaxy clusters

MOND predicts galaxy rotation curves but falls short in galaxy clusters. A variable acceleration scale constant in MOND is proposed within a Machian interpretation, which predicts a boost of accelerations in galaxy clusters without the need for new constants or free parameters, in constrast to EMOND. We test the proposed formulation in a toy model and generalize the it by introducing a directionless field as a scalar sum of inverse-squared distance mass contributions. In colaboration with Juan D. Santander.
